In 2005 McWilliam’s Wines embarked on a project to consolidate their winemaking operations at Hanwood. The project included the closure of three small satellite wineries in the Riverina, Riverland and Yarra Valley areas and relocation of assets from those site to Hanwood.

In 2013 Penfolds expanded and upgraded the red fermentation capacity at their Nuriootpa site. The project involved the removal of old equipment from inside an existing building followed by the installation of 56 x 10 tonne sweeper fermenters, elevated above mobile presses.
The project commenced late in 2013 with a short timeline for completion in February 2014.
Working inside the building, all available space was taken up by the new installation. Access for construction was very restricted – Penfolds used the analogy ‘it was like building a ship inside a bottle”.
A key aspect of the project included special design and 3D modelling of the fermenter steelwork so that it could be erected safely within the building constraints.
The project included a major upgrade of the must diversion system, incorporating the installation of a large walk-through services bridge supported within the building.

In 2014, in preparation for an increase in bottling at their Angaston site, Vinpac expanded their bottling tank farm with the installation of 3.8 million litres of new still wine storage vessels and 6 x 50kL pressure tanks for sparkling wine processing.

The tank farm expansion was a challenging project in that the site was restricted in area and Vinpac’s 24/7 bottling operations needed to continue uninterrupted.

In 2015 Yalumba embarked on the challenging project of rebuilding their bottling hall within an existing building at their Angaston site. To limit bottling downtime, the construction phase of the project had to be delivered in 8 weeks including removal and reinstatement of the bottling lines.

We worked closely with Yalumba to manage the project and timeline. We provided engineering design, documentation, tendering and inspections for all building and HVAC services work.
In 2012, following a prolonged period of growth, Smiths embarked on a project to increase the throughput of their potato chip plant at Regency Park.
The proposal included the removal of existing conveyors and equipment from the production area and the installation of a new conveyor system supplied from the UK. The new system included 186m of vibrating trough conveyor made up of 76 individual machines, each weighing up to 1.4 tonne. The new conveyor arrangement required the existing support structure to be modified and for old walkway, platform and stair sections to be replaced with new. Access in and around the equipment was limited making it impossible for mobile cranes to be used during the works.
To minimise the loss of production, Smith’s required the work be carried out over a 13 day plant shutdown.
After assessing the scope, time restraint and lack of space inside the room we proposed the idea of building an overhead gantry crane above the production area, to be installed in advance of the shutdown. The crane would enable the safe and quick handling of equipment during the shutdown and could remain after the project for conveyor maintenance. The idea was accepted by Smiths and the crane included in the project scope.
